About The Market

The Norman Newman Market

The Norman Newman Market was donated in memory of Norman Newman ~ 1928-1993. Norm operated Capital Stores Ltd. in the Halifax-Dartmouth area, having taken the business over from his father, Abe, and his uncles in the late 1940’s. He was a hands on operator who believed in buying directly from the farmers and the wholesalers. Norm operated the chain in Dartmouth and Halifax, which had grown from 6 small stores to several larger supermarkets. He sold the company to Atlantic Superstore in 1986.

Alderney Landing - Market Level

The Norman Newman Market is located on the ground floor of Alderney Landing. It is open to the public 7 days a week.

The Alderney Landing Market is home to several permanent vendors. So if your taking a stroll on the Dartmouth Waterfront, drop by The Craig Gallery - Art Gallery, grab lunch at Evans Fresh Seafoods & Restaurant, followed by desert and a coffee at Port City Coffee Company. Then, pick up some wine at the NSLC and finish off your shopping list at Meadowbrook Meat Market for your supper preparation. Treat yourself! You deserve it! Relax to a soothing massage at Casaroma Wellness Centre. All in the same place. All in Beautiful Downtown Dartmouth.
